Ciudad Colon
Ciudad Colón is a lovely city located 20 miles west of San Jose, the country’s capital, in the picturesque countryside. The town is a particularly uncommon visit due to the menagerie of cultures that calmly coexist there. More than fifty different nations send students to study at the University for Peace, which is on the outskirts of the city. This settlement is special because of the distinctive blending of native Costa Ricans with the UPeace international community.
Ciudad Colón is a wonderful walking community with large city amenities and a kind, small-town atmosphere. It is a fantastic spot to live or visit, with dozens of restaurants, several stores, three weekly farmer’s markets with organic food, Spanish schools, kilometers of hiking trails, and an abundance of cultural events.
With stunning views of the Poas Volcano to the north, the town is tucked into a mountainside. It is notable for its tropical climate all year long and its verdant surroundings. A valuable attraction, the town is surrounded by horse farms and coffee plantations.
The Pacific Ocean is just a 45-minute drive away, thanks to the CR-27 freeway. A long range of day tours is available from here, including excursions to museums, waterfalls, beaches, volcanoes, botanical gardens, and beaches.
