Escazú sits on the hills just west of San José, and Santa Ana is its neighbour to the west. Together they are where many people moving to the Central Valley look first, because almost everything daily life needs is a short drive away.
- Private hospitals: Hospital CIMA is in San Rafael de Escazú, beside Route 27, and Hospital Metropolitano Lindora is in Pozos, Santa Ana.
- Shopping and services: Multiplaza Escazú, and the Lindora area of Santa Ana with its supermarkets, restaurants, banks and clinics.
- Schools: several bilingual and international schools within a short drive of both towns.
- The airport: Juan Santamaría International Airport is about 20 km from Escazú (usually 25 to 40 minutes) and about 16 km from Santa Ana (usually around 25 minutes).
- The beach as a day trip: Route 27 runs to the central Pacific; Jacó is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours away. Then you come home to the cooler Central Valley air.

They are neighbours and share many services. Escazú has Multiplaza and Hospital CIMA inside the canton, and its districts run from busy San Rafael along Route 27 to the older village streets of San Antonio up the hill. Santa Ana is often described as a little calmer, and often a little more affordable, with condominiums and gated communities around Lindora and family homes on larger lots in its quieter districts. Visit both before you decide, and drive your daily routes at the times you will actually travel.
